Marjan van Herpen

Council for the Living

Marjan graduated as an Architect from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture after a Bachelor's degree in Spatial Design from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, where she was nominated for the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Prize in Applied Arts. For several projects, she has received grants from the Van Eesteren-Fluck & Van Lohuizen Foundation and the Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie. In recent years, she has deepened her circular design methods including Boomschaamte and, together with MBO students, she built Green Office for College Zuidoost, which was nominated for the ARC20 innovation award.

Since 2020, she has formed Clubhaus Architects together with Claudia Temperilli, thus bringing in solid knowledge and a free design approach. Reality and dream come together. They ask questions and provide answers to how we want to live together now and in the future. Clubhaus Architects focuses on inclusive design, both social: involving people from diverse backgrounds, and ecological: designing for all life forms with the principles of Nature Based Thinking. They initiate research and use design research for the questions they are asked. They work on integrated projects combining education, regrowable materials, climate adaptation and low tech to strengthen or even increase the biodiversity network: Green Fingers Amstelscheg Amsterdam, Green Halo for Cultural Heritage, Cross-pollinating and Germination Expedition: schools towards a climate-adaptive future. They are a compact and dedicated agency and their sweet and knowledgeable network allows them to handle complex projects. They are bold and meticulous. They are a learning-working company for the mbo and work a lot with students from the ROC of Amsterdam.
