Marit Janse

Council for the Living

Marit Janse (1977, Rotterdam) graduated cum laude in 2013 from the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam with a Masters in Garden and Landscape Architecture. Before that, she studied at the International Agricultural College Larenstein and University of Greenwich in England. Marit worked as a designer for the Municipality of Rotterdam and later for the Municipality of Dordrecht in combination with freelance projects for climate-proof inner-city landscape projects. She is currently a senior landscape architect and member of the management team at De Urbanisten, office for urban planning and landscape architecture in Rotterdam. Marit is a guest lecturer and member of examination and graduation committees at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Marit Janse is an experienced landscape architect with an approach based on the cultural and natural uniqueness of a place and the importance of the added value of an intervention. Flora and fauna are important clients in this respect. Marit wants to develop a different attitude towards nature in which we create conditions for life. The time factor is a decisive element: the seasons through the year, the longue durée of landscape transformation. In her projects, Marit likes to collaborate with ecologists, scientists, artists, technicians and other disciplines to connect them in spatial design.
