Jolanda Verspagen

Jolanda Verspagen is a phytoplankton ecologist, currently working as an assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam, she is the Speaker for the Living at Mediamatic. Jolanda is fascinated by phytoplankton, a diverse group of micro organisms that are responsible for about half of all photosynthesis on Earth and form the base of the aquatic food web. She is an expert on aquatic ecology in freshwaters. She wants to apply her academic knowledge in society in multiple ways. Not only by sharing her knowledge in an accessible way, but mostly by raising empathy for the natural world among the general audience.
