Mediamatic

Mediamatic is an organization dedicated to developing and presenting cross-disciplinary art, design, and science practices. With sustainability and social urgency as their core concerns, they have been at the forefront of contemporary culture since 1983. They recognise themselves in the model of a monastery: as a safe haven for knowledge development and transfer, interests in practices that require an investment of time and close attention, shared responsibilities all based on a strong DIY mentality. In the heart of Amsterdam, Mediamatic's residency program provides artists and designers with the space needed to research, develop, and prototype their projects.

If our environment collapses, humans too will suffer from the consequences. So we need to understand that respecting, collaborating with and regenerating our landscape and all its inhabitants is essential for long-term thriving. By joining the growing network of Zoöps, Mediamatic wants to evolve from a human-centric perspective to a broader one that involves all life forms. We don’t put ourselves above the environment, but we level with it. We want to help all live thrive, not because they deserve or need it – but because it is their right.
