Shakti Lieten

Shakti Lieten is Speaker for the Living at Tetem

As a teenager, Shakti already knew very clearly what she wanted to do when she grew up: make the world a little more beautiful (and cleaner). Shakti studied biotechnology in Wageningen, specializing in environmental technology and microbiology. Shakti has worked as a consultant on soil remediation and the circular economy at various companies. Since 2020, she has been teaching science, technology, and art to primary school children through her own company, STEAMStart. Shakti is passionate about stimulating children's natural curiosity and urge to explore nature and technology. She is also committed to nature education at organizations such as IVN. Biomimicry—imitating nature—and learning from nature is a key principle for her. Shakti is the author of two English-language novels focusing on intercultural interactions. She is currently working on a children's book with short stories, each from the perspective of a different animal. "Being able to empathize with others is a great asset that we should cherish," is something Shakti strongly advocates.
