Tetem

Zoöp since: 2025 | Location: Enschede, NL | Speaker for the Living: Shakti Lieten
Tetem is an art and innovation space where artists, designers and the public work together. As a Zoöp, Tetem sees its work as something in constant motion. In its activities and programming, social impact and care for the living environment are brought together, with attention to all life.

Highlights

Highlights of the goals Tetem is working towards as a Zoöp:

  • Balancing social and ecological approaches in education
Tetem delivers many educational programmes to schools across Overijssel each year. These are currently focused primarily on creativity and civic engagement with people. As a Zoöp, Tetem wants to expand this: pupils will not only design for people, but will also take other forms of life into account. Assignments are being adapted accordingly, for example, instead of an abstract design, pupils create something that genuinely contributes to local insects or nature.

  • Including other life in care and collaboration
In its fair care policy, Tetem currently focuses primarily on fair collaboration between people. As a Zoöp, this is being broadened to ask: what does fair collaboration mean when animals, plants and ecosystems are also counted? This involves gradually exploring how all life forms can be given a place in decisions, collaboration and the evaluation of projects.

  • Families in Twente becoming aware of the Zoöp concept
At the Maker Festival Twente, thousands of visitors are invited to look at their environment differently. Through workshops and stories, people of all ages are challenged to take the perspective of other life forms into account, for example, by collaboratively creating scenarios in which animals and people shape their living space together.
