Rif

Zoöp since 2025
Rif is a workshop for music theatre – a place where contemporary music theatre is created that amazes, moves, sparks the imagination, and encourages reflection. They explore the musical power of theatre and the theatrical power of music.

Like a coral reef, Rif grows through connection and collaboration. It attracts and releases life. A reef is simultaneously a place, a process, and a community – a home, a breeding ground, and a source of energy.

Based on this vision, Rif aims to be a living entity, built by and for artists, local residents, and researchers. Their work is rooted in the Deurneleitje in Mortsel, not as a finished house but as an open environment where ideas, people, and structures can connect, branch out, crumble, and come to life again. Rif is not a defined institution, but a shared and ever-changing work of art, nourished by the input of many.

In this way, Rif remains in motion: a place where art and community continually question, challenge, and inspire each other. The road to this point has been rich: thirty-five years of creating, searching, playing and growing lie behind us in the fascinating archive of music theatre WALPURGIS.
